ECZACIBAŞI SPORTS CLUB

The Eczacıbaşı Sports Club was founded by Dr. Nejat F. Eczacıbaşı and Şakir Eczacıbaşı with the aim of promoting and popularizing sports among the wider public and training professional athletes for the country.

After training athletes in a variety of fields, the Club focused its resources exclusively on women’s volleyball in the 1990’s and , contributed to women’s volleyball becoming the most thriving branch of team sports in Turkey.

ince its establishment in 1966, the Eczacıbaşı Sports Club has won 13 National Championships in table tennis, eight National Championships in men’s basketball, three National Championships in chess, and 40 National Championships in men’s and women’s volleyball. Its three junior volleyball teams have also won over 40 National Championships

1950

The foundations of the Eczacıbaşı Sports Club were laid in the 1950s with the start-up of football and tennis tournaments and other sports activities within the Eczacıbaşı Group.

1966

In 1966, these activities took a professional turn with the establishment of the Eczacıbaşı Sports Club by Dr. Nejat F. Eczacıbaşı and Şakir Eczacıbaşı.

1967

In 1967, the Club became a member of the National Sports Federation, after which it began to develop and train some of the most valuable basketball, volleyball and table tennis players in the history of Turkish sports.

1972

The Club broke a record by winning 17 consecutive National Championships in women’s volleyball, starting with the 1972-1973 season. All in all, the Club has won 28 National Championships in women’s volleyball.

1999

In 1999, the Club’s women’s volleyball team won the “European Cup Winners’ Cup”, the first European Cup for Turkey in volleyball.

2015

In 2015, the women’s volleyball team won the European Champions League, and FIVB Women’s Club World Championship, which it also won in 2016.

Atatürk’s Daughters

Turkey’s first winner of the European Championship title, and a record-breaker with 17 consecutive National Championship titles, the Women’s Volleyball A-Team rose to second place in the European League on the 100th anniversary of the birth of Atatürk in 1980 and gained international recognition for Turkey’s sport accomplishments. Upon this triumph, Eczacıbaşı’s women volleyball players earned themselves the epithet “Atatürk’s Daughters” in the national press.

Success is not just about winning games but also about the pursuing goals

The Eczacıbaşı Sports Club was presented with the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) “Women and Sport World Trophy” for its accomplishments as a world-leading club in women’s volleyball, offering thousands of young women the opportunity to play volleyball and enhancing the presence of women in sports. The IOC is regarded as the world’s most prestigious committee with respect to women and sports and this was the first time that both a candidate from Turkey and a sports club received these award.
